Real Estate, Construction & Design

Baker Bros has expert teams available to help our franchisees with the site selection, build out, and interior design of their restaurants. When we bring on a new franchise group we spend time with them in their market touring the market for viable trade areas and targeting them in the right direction. Further, franchisees may wish to use the same national architect and national general contractor we use, thereby potentially avoiding mistakes and cost overruns, but they are under no obligation to do so.

Your architect will be able to use the set of standard Baker Bros American Deli plans that we provide for your restaurant’s building design, layout, and equipment package. Plus we assist franchisees with our building requirements and even assist in the design and layout of the restaurant with an eye toward aesthetics, efficiency and maximum seating.

Throughout the entire development process, we are available to assist you and answer any questions about building your new Baker Bros restaurant.

Training

We provide intensive training and support programs for our franchisees and their management teams. The Management Training Program encompasses 8 weeks of classroom and on-the-job training that teaches the basics of working in and managing a Baker Bros restaurant. It covers product preparation, kitchen procedures, frontline customer service, ordering, shift management, managing food and labor costs, weekly inventory, profit & loss statements, ideal food cost and many other facets of restaurant management and operations.

Restaurant Operations

Baker Bros offers Systems and Procedures that are truly best-in-class and we back those systems up with outstanding service. Our operations team serves as a resource for all operations procedures, labor controls, quality assurance, and food safety. They also continually assess our training programs as they relate to our experiences in the field and make improvements when necessary, often before they are necessary. Our Systems and Procedures are clearly defined in the Baker Bros American Deli Operations Manual, a clear, step-by-step reference for operating a Baker Bros American Deli.

Periodically, a member of our franchise operations team will visit your restaurant to evaluate its individual performance and will offer guidance for process improvement, sales building and profit maximization. In a sense, we consider our franchisees to be partners and we offer as much assistance as possible in order for our franchisees to be successful.

Marketing

At Baker Bros, we believe that our best form of marketing is to choose great locations and operate those great locations with impeccable service and the highest quality products. We know that no amount of marketing can overcome a bad experience.

We also use highly effective marketing campaigns including direct mail, free standing inserts, fishbowl marketing, and catering programs to build sales the right way, by winning customers over one at a time. Franchisees always have access to our team to discuss our branding and advertising strategies that will work best for them in their market.

In addition, there are no marketing fees or ad funds payable directly to Baker Bros. Franchisees may be required to spend up to 2% on local store marketing. However, our franchisees remain in control of those advertising dollars unless a local co-op is established.

Distribution.

Baker Bros has national contracts with most of our vendors and boasts national distribution with one of the finest broadline distributors in the industry. In addition, we negotiate prices for the entire system to the most competitive levels possible. As we are able to negotiate cost savings, those savings are passed on directly to our franchisees. We negotiate with our vendors so that our franchisees pay the same prices that we pay, save for any differences in distribution costs. There are no rebates or any other types of disbursements from our distributors of any kind that come to Baker Bros. We vigorously maintain a professional, arms-length relationship with all of our suppliers.
